together you’re home, now where are we?

2024

together you’re home, now where are we? was an interactive performance presented on the opening
night of the Tang Teaching Museum’s 2024 Spring Opening Reception.

The performance coincided with the Lunar New Year, known as Tết in Vietnamese culture, a time traditionally reserved for family gatherings, celebrations, and blessings. In the spirit of Tết, the artists gifted visitors with red envelopes containing poems, inviting them to respond with their own offerings. These responses, written on slips of paper, were left on an altar outside the exhibition space, allowing visitors to participate in an exchange of blessings, in keeping with the customs of the holiday.

Filled with cushions, candy, and the sound of a gong, the space invited visitors to pause and reflect. Red envelopes, containing poems from respected figures and reimagined Mad Libs versions of Theresa’s poetry, encouraged participants to create their own blessings. Performing as anonymous figures, the artists removed the typical performer/audience dynamic, allowing the space to exist as a collective moment of contemplation.
